This is not one for the faint hearted. The Mdina Dungeons are a vivid and harrowing account of medieval events in Malta. These very underground passageways, chambers and cells were home to some of the darkest and most torturous measures taken in a bygone era. The Mdina Dungeons are housed underneath the noble Magisterial Vilhena Palace, the first building on your right as soon as you enter from Mdina’s main gate. The incidents described in vivid detail with life-size figures are sometimes beyond belief. Shock and incredulity will be your overriding feelings.The episodes described at the Mdina Dungeons range from different periods in Malta’s chequered history...Romans, Byzantine, Arabs, Knights and even French. These are times when crucifixion, beheading, public executions, torture, crime, revolts, conspiracies, imprisonment, punishments and inquisitions were all commonplace under heavy handed rulers.The Mdina Dungeons provide a truly memorable and dramatic experience for the bold and brave on often forgotten aspects of the dark past of Malta’s history.
